Preston Park and the surrounding area were once part of the prestigious Harrow Golf Club opened in 1912. The area was redeveloped as housing during the 1930s. |

This area was a lovely piece of Metroland known as the Chalkhill Estate. In the latter part of the '60s it was swept away and replaced by a revolting high-density local authority housing estate.
It quickly gained a notorious reputation for anti-social behaviour and criminality. Although having been redeveloped once again, it's reputation has not improved. |

Neasden Power Generating Station. Built by the Metropolitan Railway in about 1904 to generate power for the newly electrified sections of the railway.
It was built on the site of what had been the company gasworks, which supplied the gas used for lighting the old carriages.
At about the same time, the rival Metropolitan District Railway built a generating station at Lots Road, Chelsea to supply their own needs. |

I rather think that this is a three carriage set of Ashbury stock used on the Chesham branch at this time. Probably at Neasden for servicing. |

Fly shunting were the shunter uncouples wagons and the train loco gives them a push and then stops so as the uncoupled wagons continue on, free wheeling, into a siding. A practice banned at various times for being too dangerous. |
