It looks like this is quite a steep slope / scarp. I had wondered why such a big house had such a small garden in the front - just a modest parterre - but I reckon the 'garden' would have been the view out over the lower land below the scarp. |

Only other photos taken on this day are at Ross on Wye, of Gas holders. There are other gas holders in the west midlands in the next weeks too, so maybe in that area. The flat terrain would suggest can't be Ross but may be Severn valley en-route |

I think it's flat behind the house, but the area in front, nearest the viewer, looks like a steep slope to me. |

I've had a look at the now demolished Honingham Hall in Norfolk but there are significant differences in the architecture so it has to be discounted. |

Judging by shadows, I would say entrance to house faces East. |
