  This was what people called a 'Doss House' on Prince Consort rd beside the Carr St junction. Men could stay the night for a penny or two but didn't get a bed for that money. Instead they'd sleep standing up hanging over a thick rope. |

| This area was known locally as 'The Bauxite'. Not a lot is recorded about this 'British Aluminium Co' apart from it produced Aluminium Hydroxide from the ore known as 'Bauxite'. A lot of waste known as red mud was a by-product of the process & it was dumped on the site producing hillocks/mounds of this red mud. It was fenced off to keep people off it. |

| Martin's Bank later became Barclays. It stands on Prince Consort Rd - Argyle St corner & is still there today. Today it is a Funeral Parlour. |

| These sheds started life as Platers Sheds for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co in 1919. In 1921 the Company went bankrupt.
Late 1920s the Sheds became the 'Reay Gear Works' where gear wheels & gearboxes were manufactured. Later George Angus & Co took it over & later still RW Transmissions took over. RW finally closed the factory down mid 1970s.Today a Housing Estate stands on this land. |

 The 'Ellison House Hotel' on Prince Consort Rd - Lyon St corner. It was badly damaged when the 'Theatre Royal' next door burned down in Oct 1950. The Theatre had opened in 1897 & Stan Laurel's dad Arthur Jefferson managed it at one time. Stan was half of the world famous 'Laurel & Hardy' duo. Photo from my website www.oldtyneside.co.uk |

| This was locally known as 'Bottom Reyrolles'. Reyrolles was split by the Newcastle to South Shields railway line . The other half was Reyrolles Newtown Works. |
