Whiteburn St. Across from the houses was the Miners Hall which was possibly used by the Salvation Army as this photo from my website shows.

These sheds were originally built in 1919-20 as Platers Sheds for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co that went bankrupt in 1921. Years later it became the 'Reay Gear Works' employing workers making gears & gearboxes.It later was sold to George Angus & it continued as a gear manufacturer. Its last owner was RW Transmissions in the late 50s or early 60s but it closed in the 1970s.

The remains of the old Hebburn 'C' Pit. Later the land was used by Hawthorn Leslies as a Stock yard .
