Old Tunnel, driven through mineral ground to allow the Sirhowy tramroad to take Iron from Ebbw Vale forge, The Harfords had an interest in this tramroad, it was also a coal level. |

Scoured area of Black pins mine ground, the site of Hilltop housing estate of the 1950's This ground, containing over ten narrow iron ore bands or "pins" of argillaceous iron ore in 15 to 20 foot of shale was exploited through to Sirhowy above and below ground. |

I think this is the "tump" described above Bwlch y Garn where Zephaniah Williams addressed the crowds of Chartists form Nantyglo, Blaina and Ebbw Vale in the rainy evening that they set off for Newport, they walked down to the valley floor, stopped the blast at Penycae furnaces, assaulted William Adams in his home and then walked down part the Victoria ironworks which was built and being commissioned following the tramroads to the port. In later years the area had a rifle range for the Brynmawr and Nantyglo militia. |
