Creeper haulage taking spoil from disused Gantra pits #8,9 and 10, the shale left from mining the argillaceous iron ore pins was ideal for brickmaking, ganister clay was abundant as was small coal. |

Mt. Pleasant Square at bottom right, my old family home. Many good times there with great people locally. Hughes Avenue running up the photo to Willowtown School; crossing Mt. Pleasant Road, Council Street, Letchworth Road ( also lived there) . Lovely photo - brings back lots of good memories. Left Ebbw in 1969 - but it' s stiill here in my heart. |

Gantre and Brynheulog Brickworks, they used the wast shale spoil from the coal and iron ore mines to make engineering bricks. |
