I can't claim to make out the Traveller's Rest PH at the top of Caerphilly Mountain which is in the vicinity of this flag. The irony is that I used to visit the Travellers Rest at weekends around 1980/1 when I was quite keen on Amateur Radio. My brother and I would take a 2metre mobile rig with us which would enable us to speak to people quite a long way away in England and occasionally further. Harmless fun and good beer. I really should have identified this one sooner.

Excalibur Drive, Thornhill would be near the centre of the photo today.

The M4 Motorway cuts right across the centre of this photo these days.

No one can ever know how long it has taken me to identify the location of this photo but thanks to our friends at the National Library of Scotland who have 6 inch maps of England, Wales and Scotland I have it.

Needless to say don't look at Ebbw Vale for the location of this photo.

The photo is looking north in the Thornhill and Llanishen areas near Cardiff. I shall now fill in the details.

At last!

I have probably spent hours trying to locate this photo. I know that it is not an image of the centre of Ebbw Vale which is in a steep sided valley with typical valley town terraced housing. I have looked in the area around the M4 near the Cardiff Gate Services but I can't get it to fit. One day it will all fit together.

I suggest that this one is unlikely to be within five miles of Ebbw Vale. As to where it is I don't know. More work is needed. For the present it should be regarded as unlocated.
