There is no written record of the 'Swansea Devil', watching St. Mary's Church burn, prior to 1941.
Feb. 1941, the church did burn, leaving just a shell, owing to German incendiary bombs. |

The building that was directly opposite the tower of St. Mary's, was, the delivery vehicle store, and stables of 'Ben' Evans Store.
During the 1960s, I worked there when it the warehouse of 'David' Evans Foodhall.
This site is now the eastern end of Iceland Store, on St. Mary's St.

The Cross Keys Inn in 1923 was a few buildings in from the end of the terrace. These houses have since been demolished and the Cross Keys is now at the end of St Mary Street. My grandfather was born in 1903 at number 10, which was at the junction of St Mary St and Cross Street. See ... https://viewer.library.wales/4715288#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=25&xywh=120%2C4908%2C4403%2C2642 |

Could someone indicate, if possible, where Gomerian Place would be situated on this photograph? I believe that it is in this area.. |

Hi Woodruff, unfortunately, I cannot help you there. However, have you thought about asking your question to the members of the Old Swansea group? They seem to me a very knowledgeable lot. Just become a member of the group, then come back to this photo and click on 'Add to ...', select the group and post your question. Good luck with your research! Someone posted on another site, that Gomerian Place, was a Court, roughly where BHS, now stands. As I'm writing this BHS, is in the process of closing down. Between the northern end of Princess Way, and the service lane behind M&S. |
