The turntable was used to release engines from their trains in the platforms, turn them and allow them to run back through the station to get to the head of the train for the return journey.

The station was closed in 1926 by the relatively new Southern Railway as part of a rationalisation of railway facilities set up by the previous independent railway companies.

All the history of Dreamland since the station closed makes me wonder if a reverse to station status would have been better now for day trippers.Still the tunnel was useful during the war.
