The area with the slightly lower roof is the Windsor station, which was removed to make way for the Waterloo International station - a station that cost £130m and was operational for just 13 years. Possibly one of the best modern stations built in this country and an investment just wasted after a very short period of service that cost £10m a year.

The main station with Suburban services to the south and main line trains in the longest platforms in the middle of the station.

Turntable and coaling yard for the relative small number of steam engines still using the south side of the station by this time. This was hang-over from the days of steam suburban trains. By 1934 most of the services from the south side (and indeed the Windsor line services from the north side were electric trains.

The Necropolis Railway station. The Necropolis Company provided a service of funeral trains, linking London with the Brookwood Cemetery to the south of the LSWR main line at Brookwood station. The coffins and mourners would be carried first or third class (the coffins had their own cardboard ticket just like the passengers), the former in special hearse vans (with fist and third class compartments) fitted with racks for the caskets. The station suffered a direct hint in an air raid in 1941 and never reopened for business after the war. For short time the main station was used but then the Company decided it would no longer be profitable to run the funeral trains and this part of the business folded.

These two platforms are short 'docks' for van traffic so do not count in the station's total of 21 platforms, making it the largest station on the British railway network.

A main line locomotive backing out of the station on its way to the sheds at Nine Elms, its train having already been removed to Clapham Junction. The engine is rather indistinct but is size and general shape suggest a member of he King Arthur Class.

The old Waterloo signal box above the tracks approaching the station. It would soon be replaced by the new box on the north side of the approach, controlling coloured light signals. This box was in turn removed to make way for the short lived International station.
