The Station Field - In the 1950's, I remember a circus used to be sited here every year. Many of the animals arrived by train and before being caged were led around the town in a procession. Stone station was opened on 1 May 1849 by the North Staffordshire Railway Company. The building was designed by surveyor Sir Henry Arthur Hunt (1810-1889) and is listed Grade II. The architectural style might be described as neo-Elizabethan. Stone Town Council refurbished the structure in 2003 for community use, but a recent visitor found it shuttered. The station closed for a time but re-opened in 2008; tickets have to be bought on the train. Sir Henry Hunt was also responsible for the construction of Allsopp's Brewery at Burton-on-Trent and undertook numerous other projects for the North Staffordshire Railway	MB	Sunday 15th of September 2013 09:59:03 AM
