This timber yard was owned by James Latham during the 1970-s that I know of, almost certanly were there a while before that. I think they owner the larger white building to the right in this picture. Latham's was still run by Latham family at the time. |

This was known to us as Rat Island to us locals in the 1960s. By then the main channel had been cut through to the right of the island as you look at the picture to make a straighter path to the pass under the bridge. The water to the left was still there making it difficult to get to the island but it gradually drained down during the 70s, eventually becoming totally dry. Part of the clump of trees appears to be still there as seen on Google Earth from Lea Bridge Road, but it's by no means an island anymore |

In 2012 the local authority in Waltham Forest permitted the building of a temporary Olympic basketball practice arena here, descecrating a previously open field green space, digging into a WW2 bomb damage landfill site, unearthing asbestos in the process and causing a thorough nuisance. All documented in local newspapers.
A site to watch for promises of the 2012 'legacy'. |

This pin is on the site of the ice rink. The basketball area was to the north. And while the actions of the local authority and Olympic committee were lazy, other options were available, the land used was very low grade open space, as you say on bomb damage landfill, not a pristine marsh was often publicised. Sadly it was replaced with more of the same a year or so later. |

There is still a sub-surface WW2 bunker at this location with a direct view protecting the 'London side' from attack from the Walthamstow Marshes. The railway line carries trains from Chingford, Enfield and Cheshunt across the nearby Connell's Bridge over the River Lea. |
