This vacant site would shortly be developed as the Royal Festival Hall as part of the Festival of Britain. Alongside it, in the 1960s, would appear the Queen Elizabeth Hall, a rather stark example of 60s brutalism that has not improved with age.

Within a year or two, this site would be developed as the main site for the Festival of Britain of 1951. Here would be the Dome of Discovery and the Skylon. The exhibition was dismantled at the conclusion of the event and is now the site of Jubilee Gardens, opened in 1977 as part of the Queen's Silver jubilee celebrations.
