From 1935 until the late 1940s this house (6 Great North Way, "The White Lodge") was owned and occupied by Will Hay, the famous comedy actor. He was also an amateur astonomer and his observatory can be seen in the garden to the west. This house was situated conveniently close to Hendon Aerodrome (he had a pilot's flying licence) and the Mill Hill Observatory, a mile or so down the road at Mill Hill on the Watford Way.
