  Derby roundhouse.
Constructed in 1839, this Roundhouse is the world’s first and oldest surviving railway roundhouse and is now a Grade ll listed building. Following closure of Derby Railway Works, it narrowly escaped demolition and lay derelict for many years. It has now been restored for a modern use and has become part of the campus of Derby College. |

The Derby Canal was opened in 1796 to link Derby to the Erewash Canal and Trent and Mersey canals. Part of it continued to be used by ICI for many years, but it eventually was closed in 1964. There is little trace of the canal left, part of it in Derby having been used for a road. |
