The Bristol tramway system started as a horse-drawn tramway in 1875, and was converted to electricity from 1895 onwards. Conversion of the 31 miles of tram lines to bus routes started in 1938, and the last two routes were abruptly terminated by a German bomb knocking out the power supply in 1941.
