| 43 Berw Road. 1945 my first visit to Pontypridd. I was 7 years old. I was already a rail fan and dearly wished to know what was happening on top of the embankment at the bottom of the garden. There was a closed lane. The nearest I got was to hear the rumble of trains passing above and out of my sight and perhaps a whisp of smoke. Also across the other side of Berw Road was a river that ran black unlike anything I had seen before. So this was my introduction to the Welsh Valleys. |

The course of the Taff Vale Railway's Pont-Shon-Norton Branch from Albion colliery can be traced across the photo from Albion Colliery to the eponymous signal box, joining the main TVR Cardiff Bute Dock-Merthyr Main Line, by this time all under the control of the Great Western Railway. |
