| The Britannia Tubular Bridge. This bridge was built 1845-1850 by Robert Stephenson assisted by William Fairburn and others. It was one of the greatest engineering works of the 19th Century.
Regretably it was severely damaged by fire in May 1970, and was rebuilt as a double-deck rail/road bridge. |
