My grandfather worked as an engineer's machinist at John Hastie when I was very small. It must have been sometime between 1948 until 1955 when he died. My aunt worked in the office until she left in about 1962. I can remember going with my father to take my granddad's lunch over to him once when he forgot it.I must have been between 3 and 4 years old. The smell of machine oil can still take me back in memory to that day.
