Believe this to be Maiden Hall Farm building at the bottom of Oak Hill Lane, known previously in the mid 19th c as Lost Farm. My 2 x great grandfather John Mudd, was a tenant farmer at Lost Farm in the period around 1861 The farm consisted of approximately 120 acres at this time, occupying virtually the whole site which is now the Chantry estate. Robert Burrell, the 4th Lord Gwydyr of Gwyder, was owner of the land. John Mudd was also a butcher by trade, previously having premises on: the (old) Bell Lane, Croft Street (site of then demolished Stoke Green windmill) and 12 Bridge Street by 1883.
Other than from the 1861 census and church rate book, I have limited information about Lost Farm and would appreciate any further information. |
