Scheduled Ancient Monument - Wem Castle A motte castle - constructed by William Pantulf between 1135 and 1154. In 1290 it was in ruins and was rebuilt in 1313. In 1538 all that remained visible of the castle was the motte and an encircling ditch. In the mid-19th century the southern portion of the motte was reduced in height and a brick-built retaining wall, aligned east-west, was built across the mound. Now from 1.7m to 3m high. (The ground beneath added "modern" structures in listed but not the newer structures)

Church of St Peter and St Paul, Wem (SY4 5DG) Grade 2* listed building - English Heritage Building ID: 259939 Circa C14 base of west tower with perpendicular upper stages. Nave built in 1809-13 and chancel of 1886. Unusual circa early C14 west doorway with 4 arches of continuous mouldings with dog-leg bends at the base.

"Congregational Chapel", Wem Grade 2 listed building - English Heritage Building ID: 259910 1775, enlarged 1834. Ashlar front 1854. An Independent chapel, allied to the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion was built here in 1775 at the expence of John Henshaw, attorney. It became fully Independent c.1792. The chapel was enlarged in 1834 (when the present front was probably added) and altered again in 1873. The Independents joined the United Reformed Church in the later 20th century, and by 1992 had joined with the Methodist Church in Wem The chapel was taken over by the Baptists in 1992.

Wem Town Hall. Erected 1905. The inside of the building was gutted by fire in 1995. It now serves as a concert hall / cinema retaining the original frontage but not much else. source: wikipedia [[Wem Town Hall]]
