 Burdett Road jetty used to be here. Must have been demolished in previous two years since the TSMV New Royal Sovereign pleasure-boat was sold away to Bridlington in 1936. |

All of the bigger motor pleasure boats must have been working from the Pier head, since their landing-stages are unoccupied. Interesting to see that the Jetty that was opposite the end of Burdett Road - and from which the New Royal Sovereign pleasure-boat had been operating since 1928 - has already been demolished. Obviously, given the date of this photo, 1938, - "invasion fear" was not the reason for the demolition. I wonder why it WAS demolished, then. Lack of potential users, and therefore lack of rental income to the Corporation, so they decided to save money, perhaps? yet they left the even-more isolated Camper Road Jetty standing until some time after WW2? |
