This is No: 1 Mount Vernon, the location where Detective Constable Alfred Young was shot, and killed on 14th July 1915 by a man called Gorges, an armed man resisting arrest on a warrant issued for illegal homosexual activities. Young, already a widower following the death of his wife 4 years earlier during childbirth, left his daughter Bessie doubly-orphaned. |
