Carlton Works, Copeland Street, the pottery of Wiltshaw & Robinson, makers of Carlton Ware. Their bottle ovens can be seen in the picture though they were demolished in the 1940s and replaced by electric kilns. The opposite side of Copeland Street, which backed onto the canal was demolished to make way for the D Road (A500). The pottery closed in 1989 but the building survives and has been converted into workshops and student accommodation.

Showell's Brewery erected in Copeland Street in 1864, which produced Croswell's Ale. In the 1960s, before the substantial building was demolished to make way for the D Road (A500), it was a Emery's builders merchants, as shown here. The Pottery of Wiltshaw & Robinson, makers of Carlton Ware, is opposite and though this closed in 1989, the building survives (2022), though its bottle ovens, which can be seen were demolished in the late 1940s as the Carlton Works, as it was called, was modernised and electric ovens installed.
