Little row of shops near the bottom of Westcombe Hill that disappeared when the Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach Road was cut in the late 60s. I lived in Humber Road, but was too young to remember any of these. The London Picture Archive has a few photos of Westcombe Hill taken in 1965 and 1969. You can see them if you type in 'Westcombe Hill' as the search term.

While many of the old industries along the river (out of picture) had their own railway sidings this newer industry is not rail connected.

This long building suggests a wire or rope walk. It was common for railways in the ninetieth and the first half of the twentieth century to make all the materials they require from base stock. Did the South East make its own multi-strand signal wire?

A the time of the picture this was a connection to industries between Charlton and North Greenwich (home of the the Dome) including gas works, coal depots, the LCC tram repair works and a glass works. Still open for aggregate traffic but with many less sidings at the out of picture end.
