The ground floor of this end of terrace terrace house would serve for many years as Stanford's (a minute grocery and sweet shop). It was clearly unsuited as a retail premises and I can only think that change-of-use planning permission was either not necessary at the time, or else no permission was applied for. In any event, the bulk of their business would have been from schoolchildren on their way home from the nearby Kingsbury County Grammar School. The house now serves its intended purpose as a residential only property.

Alignment of Metropolitan Railway branch to Stanmore, which would be completed and opened at the end of the following year.

I'm not quite sure what is wrong, but Kingsbury County School and Roe Green Primary School were built in this area in 1929 and opened in 1931 according to school records. There is absolutely no sign of either here, nor even preparatory ground works. I understand that the land had previously been Kingsbury polo ground. Either the photographic record date is incorrect or else the school details are. My guess is the latter, because the Metropolitan Railway branch to Stanmore (which opened at the end of 1932) is in the very early stages of construction.
