How much better the Park looked then, especially with the tree-lined inner circuit road (righthand side) which runs parallel to Seven Sisters Road. Centre rightedge is the Manor House junction where Green Lanes joins at right angles. Inside the park, which is still a vast area, off to the left you can see the athletics track, which in itself is a rarity these days to still be extant. There are then two open spaces above that still within the park perimeter. On one of those during 1944 there existed there a Canadian? soldiers' campsite, unfortunate to have had a direct hit from a German V.1. There were many casualties, as yet an unlocked piece of local history (as in numbers, names etc). There is no memorial placed there. If anyone does have those details perhaps they would make their research details known to a wider audience plus, the Islington local history library, 245 St John Street, London. |
