EPW028908 ENGLAND (1929). Whittakers Cotton Mill and terraced housing off Russel Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, 1929

The mill was demolished in (I think) the late 1950's. It remained an industrial site as a bottling & distribution centre for the Mackeson Beer company until around 1970 when it closed. The site was then cleared & modern single-storey indurstrial property built. Ashton Foods, a meat-packing company (which became Grampian Country Foods), was the biggest single business on this site.

Stamford Commercial Mill (also known as Carrs Mill)

Corner building (a bakery with a famous, shiny "Turog" bread sign hanging off its facade) got demolished by the '80s. Most of the rest of the commercial properties and shops are extant and operational in 2013

"New Inn" - revamped in 2012 and still going strong

Entire commercial area was re-built to become a giant meat-processing/packing plant. Last known as Grampian Country Foods until its parent corporation "Vion" shut the facility down for good on 7th August 2009

Still fishing-ponds for the local angling club in the '70s. New estate constructed on this site in the v.early years of the New Millenium.
