Courtaulds established its Little Heath plant to manufacture Acetate fibres in competition with British Celanese Limited and the Lancaster Silk Company Limited.

Courtaulds production levels were about the same as 'LanSil' but were nowhere near as much as British Celanese.

Courtaulds tried three times to take over British Celanese before doing so in 1957, they also took over the Lancaster Silk Company as well.

When Courtaulds took over B C L they changes to name of their Little Heath acetate plant to trade under the British Celanese name.

Eventually the Celanese Corporation of America forced Courtaulds to drop all reference's to the word Celanese from its titles and other trading means.

Celanese America was at one time a 'sister' company of British Celanese Limited.

Hi Triggy,

There are some photos of LanSil on the site, but we know very little about the Works at Lancaster. I wonder if you can help with those?
