This photo taken five months after the speedway track was laid at a cost of £5,000 shows the inside line of the track, the fence and posts around the outside and also the goalposts of what appears to be hockey pitch markings.

From 1895 to 1914 Crystal Palace was the venue for twenty FA Cup Finals with huge crowds of up to 110,000.

Interesting, but the goalposts are clearly soccer. Corinthian FC used the ground for home matches at this time, including their opening game of the season 12 days before the date of this photo, and two more in mid-November.

Hosted the FA cup finals from 1895 to 1914. In 1905 the owners wanted a professional club to play at venue so a new Crystal Palace FC was formed. They were forced to leave by the military, in 1915, and now play at nearby Selhurst Park.
