I took a girlfriend in there in 1962 with a bunch of friends approaching from the waste ground opposite Horniman's Museum, very spooky. There was a rumour that a man with a gun was on guard at the Crystal Palace end. |

| Start of 2nd tunnel out of CP upper level station.. exit near Cox's Walk with small foot Bridge over. Next Station (London Road) where you would alight for Horniman Museum..
The line followed Wood Vale( Turned into Nature Trail some 45 years ago. Joined main line at New Cross |

Bit confused by this. It was CP High Level, not "upper", the second tunnel (Crescent Wood, 400 yards long) emerged into the cutting spanned by Cox's Walk footbridge and the station was Lordship Lane. As painted by Pissarro from the footbridge. The main line was joined at Nunhead, though I think there was a suggestion that it should be diverted to link instead to the East London line, that came to nothing. |
