St Marks Church, 1891 to 1983. This building was demolished due to deterioration of the fabric. Two stained glass windows were donated to the Roman Catholic church of St Mary in the Falkland Islands which had been damaged in the conflict following the Argentinian invasion. Remains of embankment intended to take the Didcot, Newbury & Southampton Railway to Southampton Docks. Thanks to railway politics only a short section was begun. If it had been completed the Dell would never have been a football ground.

This is where Springhill RC School now stands - it was just about opposite the Milton Rd end of The Dell. I remember Saints parading past in an open top bus when they won the FA Cup in 1976.

The Dell. The old Southampton football club's ground. It has since been moved to a all purpose ground at St Mary's , only a all seater now with a top capacity of 32,000. Some like the more open area but, it doesn't have that fan intimidation to the players like it did at the Dell. Beating Manchester United 6-3 may never happen again.

I went to Springhill school in the 1950s, and remember they would practice in the car park, one day the ball came over into our playground, I picked it up, and the player who came to fetch it was non other than Terry Paine.
