Stockport branch of the Ashton Canal. To the left Ashton under Lyne. Terminates to the right near Nelstrop Flour Mill on Lancashire Hill. Built about 1797. Filling in of the canal commenced 1962 and there is little to see today. Buildings on the canal line prevent it reopening here. |

Correctly referred to in the plural as this building is two mirror image mills operated by the same company, Broadstone Spinning Company Ltd - one from 1906 and the other from 1908. Mule spinning mills. |

In 1963 the west mill was purchased by GEC and converted to a semiconductor factory. The venture ended in 1964 when GEC and Mullard formed Associated Semiconductor Manufactuers and the mil was sold on. |

St Elisabeths Church, built by the mill owner William Houldsworth for his workers, used the canal and elephants from Belle Vue Zoo to move the stonework.Designer Alfred Waterhouse. Consecrated 1883. |
