It is an LYR steam railmotor, with a separate 0-4-0 loco. The LYR developed this type while the LNWR went for separate 2-4-2T locos attached to one or two carriages as a push/pull arrangement. In the LYR arrangement, the leading carriage rested on the rear of the loco frames. Earlier railmotors had a loco enclosed within the body of the carriage and were not very powerful. |
