The Edgware Road Mecca bingo hall is situated in what was once the Savoy Cinema. Opened in 1936, it was designed by noted cinema architect George Coles. The impressive exterior still appears to be in good condition, and apparently the interior is well kept, with much of the original Art Deco decor still intact. Essoldo took over in 1961, and renamed it, but after one year the cinema closed, and was converted into a bingo club, which Mecca Bingo now own. Sadly the bingo hall is due to be demolished...another boring block of flat to be built there no doubt. |
