This is the First World War 'powder works', which is now part of Kembrey Park/Elgin Industrial Estate. The two tall chimneys in the picture were taken down in the Second World War because it was thought they would be an aid to navigation for enemy bombers. Towards the back of the picture is the 'Bunky Bridge' over the old Swindon/Highworth branch line. The bridge was demolished c1970, soon after the line became disused. The area to the right of the line is now a huge BMW factory, turning out panels for Minis.

Interesting to hear someone else refer to the Bunky Bridge. Only thing is, we used the name to refer to the footbridge over the GW main line a little to the south of here, linking Bridge End Road to Shrivenham Road.

The Post Office used one of the buildings in the complex for sorting & handling Xmas mail. I was based there as a Christmas Casual in 1970 & 71.
