Gatekeepers hut. When the bell rang he would emerge with his red flag and help to stop the traffic. Then he would assist by pushing the gate or by way of a handle on a chain, he would pull the gate on closing. These gates were considered too heavy for any woman to handle and therefore it was always a man's job. In any event the gates were motorised and traffic lights installed as the traffic got heavier until 1963/4 the flyover was built.
