Pinnau

I believe the adjacent pin is mistaken. The two lines of wagons to the right are empty, the wagons more to the left are full. Loaded wagons were fed to the bottom of the hoist, one by one, by gravity, hoisted according to the height of the sides of the ship, tipped into the ship's hold, then raised further or lowered to the high level track, where they rolled away from the camera by gravity.

Coal hoist in use to load coal onto the ship for export. The wagons to the right are on an embankment and full of coal. They will be rolled towards the camera by gravity, one by one, tipped into the ship's hold then lowered down to dockside level and rolled away from the camera.
