'Lansil', The Lancaster Silk Company Limited, was eventually taken over by Courtaulds Limited and administration was handed over to the admin people at British Celanese, Spondon, Derby, site. Some engineering maintenance was also undertaken by the Spondon engineering team. Spondon also began supplying Lansil with its cellulose flake for spinning into acetate fibres. This action resulted in the closure of the Nelson Acetate plant, jointly owned by Courtaulds and Lansil, Spondon already supplying Little Heath with its flake. Spondon had the capacity to supply all three acetate fibre production plants. For Spondon photo's see British Celanese Limited. |

After Courtaulds Limited took over Lansil they began sending items of manufacturing equipment to the Spondon works of what used to be British Celanese for re-furbishment. Eventually, (sorry I can't remember dates) Courtaulds closed the Lansil site and engineers from Spondon went up to Lancaster to cannibalise any items of equipment that were also used at Spondon and Little Heath, Coventry. |
