Possibly Agecroft Power Station,These cooling towers appear misplaced,i can only remember four in a row.perhaps two were demolished and two more built alongside the other two.that would be before 1956 |

I think this is Kearsley Power Station. Agecroft Power Station is in the top right hand corner of this image. If you zoom in you can just make out some construction work and the bottom of one of the cooling towers. The ManchesterBolton and Bury Canal is just to the left of the construction area. |

In 1934 the presumed date of this photo there was no agecroft power station cooling towers. The older power station was there but used a different cooling system but got two cooling towers prior to or after WW2. Around 1946 the old power station was replaced with a new one which initially kept two towers. later in the mid 1950,s another two were added and I remember them being built as veiwed from bottom of my street. In addition the cooling towers seen are more likely to be that of Kearsley power sta having two sets of towers looking north west' two to the left and three to the right on either side of the power station in around 1952 as per local maps. From a point on broad st to Acme cotton mill by map would make the position of supposed Agecroft cooling towers well to the east of its position on the photo. |
