John Rabone and Sons - Hockley Abbey Works (later became Rabone Chesterman) making rulers, tapes and tools. Previously this was the site of "Hockley Abbey", a house built circa 1798 by Richard Ford who was an industrialist and inventor. The house was built from locally sourced furnace slag in a "Gothic Ruined" style and without any justification was named Hockley Abbey. It was demolished circa 1871. |

Soho Pool Wharf was originally the parkland around Matthew Boulton’s factory (the "Manufactory" built circa 1766 and demolished circa 1859). Pools in park were fed by Hockley Brook which was also used for powering the factory machinery until its conversion to steam power with the involvement of James Watt. With the growth of the railways the pools were filled in and it became a railway wharf/sidings |
