This is the former Tunnel End Reservoir, built originally as part of the network of supply reservoirs for the Huddersfield Narrow Canal which can be seen below. It is now no longer a reservoir as such, heavily silted and serves as a wetland habitat and nature reserve with the Upper River Colne.

These rail track sidings are no longer present, and you can walk through this now mature-wooded area.

Diverted river flows 'over' the railway and down steps. Those Victorians!

This also functioned as the overflow spillway of the former Tunnel End Reservoir. The level control weir mechanism is still present and can be seen from standing on the twin arched bridge just in the picture.
