SR 40ton Ballast Hopper, probably one of those being built at Ashford in 1947. There are a couple of unfinished underframes to the right behind the next building.

This is a line of underframes of Southern Railway 40 ton Ballast Hoppers. Twenty were built at Ashford in 1947 to Diagram 1775, with American-designed bogies. Those in the photo have the end platforms and handrails, and are lacking the hopper and operating wheels. There is a finished wagon behind the building on the right, near the steam locomotive.

Line of "Skeleton" four wheel vans awaiting body and roof planks. These are likely the same as the finished vans to the right nearer the building.
