Site of Scarborough Castle Barracks. Military barracks built at the time of the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion and in use until destroyed by German naval bombardment of Scarborough, Hartlepool and Whitby on 16th December 1914. The actions of the German naval fleet during the engagement resulted in 137 fatalities and 592 wounded, as well as damage to buildings and infrastructure.
