| Railway line - Bolton is some distance to the bottom and the next station off the top is Hall i th Wood.
The line turning off to the left has gone - on the ground today there is no evidence of this line going much further. |

Some maps show this as the River Croal. However the Croal joins the River Tonge well to the South, south of the junction with Bradshaw Brooke. Most of the Croal is culverted under Bolton. The water ends up in the River Irwell. |
