 Hebburn's 'Theatre Royal that opened in 1897 and burned down on Oct 1950. At one point in it's life it was managed by a Arthur Jefferson the father of the famous Stan Laurel (of Laurel & Hardy fame). I would love a photo of the theatre but the best I can do is this newspaper clipping of the Firemen trying to save it from my www.oldtyneside.co.uk website |

 In 1936 when this photo was taken these buildings were the 'Reay Gear Works'. The buildings had been built for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Company who started in 1919 but unfortunately went bankrupt in 1921. Berths belonging the Shipyard can be seen at the waters edge. The photo showing Reay Gear Works in the background is from my www.oldtyneside.co.uk website |
