  This derelict land became Hebburn Urban District rubbish tips. In the 50s when I was young it was a filthy smoky rat infested area. Then all the years of rubbish was buried & landscaped & now it is a beautiful riverside area. Pic is from my www.oldtyneside.co.uk site |

| All this land is where Tennant's Chemicals was (later it became United Alkali) from the mid 1800s. By this photo taken in 1935 they have gone, leaving a mess. Today they would have had to clean up & landscape the area. |
