The Gear Making Company at the bottom of Prince Consort Rd. In the 20s it was the Reay Gear Works then later it was Geo Angus Gears, & later until the mid 70s it became RW Transmissions. |

This was known as 'Bottom Reyrolles. The Company was basically split by the Newcastle to South Shields railway line so one part was the Newtown Works & the other the Bottom Works |

Reyrolles who started in Hebburn about 1902 & at its peak employed over 11,000 people. My late father Bill was born in 1922 & served his apprenticeship with them & worked there for 48 yrs as a 'Horizontal Borer'. |

The Tharsis Reservoir just left unfenced & deadly being so deep with it's steeply sloping sides. I have heard of three young people drowning in this reservoir. Two children early 1900s & one boy about 7 yrs old in 1950-51. |

Tharsis Sulpher & Copper Works that started in Hebburn about 1865. When this photo was taken Tharsis had pulled out of the town leaving this derelict land. |
