New extension to Royal Edward Dock. The Eastern Arm was opened in 1928 by HRH the Prince of Wales. 1,700 feet long and 400 feet wide. Has two treble-floor sheds and grain gallery. The transit sheds 'U' and 'V' were provided with railway access front and back. Electric lifts were used to move general cargoes from floor to floor. Grain was discharged at these berths by floating and shore elevators onto a gallery running continuously along the front of the sheds and thence by conveyor to the transit and storage granaries |
