This land is where Hebburn 'B' Pit was in the 1700s through the 1800s. Sir Humphrey Davey came to Hebburn after an invitation from the Ellison's who owned land & coalmines & tested his new safety lamp using methane gas from the 'B' Pit. |

Simpson's Hostel on High Lane Row in Hebburn. The Hostel was built for Palmer's to accommodate their migrant workers probably until they found a house in Hebburn or Jarrow. I think its original name was 'Palmer's Hostel' Photo from my www.oldtyneside.co.uk website |
